All about charging ports for electric vehicles
What are the connectors?
Electric vehicles, like traditional cars, require "refueling", but they use charging stations and specialized connectors for this purpose. Depending on the manufacturer and the country of origin of the electric vehicle, the types of connectors may vary greatly. In this article, we will look at the main types of charging connectors and how they vary depending on the region of production of the car, so that you can better navigate the world of charging electric vehicles.

Regional features of charging connectors
Charging connectors for electric vehicles are divided depending on the market for which the car is manufactured. So, the American Tesla uses its own Tesla connector in the USA, and in Europe - Type 2 and CCS Combo 2. This means that the choice of connector depends not only on the car model, but also on the market it is aimed at.
Europe
Electric vehicles designed for the European market are usually equipped with a combined CCS Combo 2 port, including Type 2 (Mennekes) for alternating current charging and CCS 2 for direct current. Most Russian charging stations support these ports, which makes such cars convenient for use in Russia.
USA and America
American cars most often have a combined CCS Combo 1 port, combining Type 1 (J1772) and CCS 1, and specific to Tesla. In Russia, these ports are less common, which may require the use of an adapter.
Japan
Japanese cars are usually equipped with Type 1 and CHAdeMO ports for direct current. The CHAdeMO port is widespread in Russia, which simplifies the use of Japanese electric vehicles without adapters.
China
Stations for Chinese electric vehicles use GB/T connectors for alternating (AC) and direct (DC) current. Despite the fact that such ports are not so common in Russia yet, more and more new charging stations are being equipped with them, which will facilitate the use of Chinese cars in the future.
This review should help you better understand how to choose the appropriate connector for your electric vehicle, based on its origin and intended country of operation.
